Weekly Update Written By: Lily

The week started off slowly. I vaguely remember what my mom did when I was getting read for school. I really miss having her around to send me off to school before she headed for work at the office.

After school and before Gramps and I head off for our jobs, we played a game of red hands and talked while doing it to catch up. I really do like that I have someone at home with me at times to socialize with. I also wish I knew who my father was.

Kori Thomas came over today. We talked over a late lunch for a while. We had something in common: we lived with one of our grandparents. However, Kori lived with her two other siblings, Lucius and her twin Nicholas. I wish I had a sibling to talk to, but I guess I will never know if I do have half-siblings or not.

Most days after work, I would do my homework and Gramps would chat with the people in the neighborhood to increase how well we are known. I'm glad he is fitting in here. I would hate for him to have just come here and stayed in the house and didn't socialize with anyone. He tried that for a bit after Grandma and Mom had died.

I brought home Lucius Thomas from school a few days later. I knew he was the older brother of Kori, a good friend. However, Kori is younger than I am and I know that Lucius is the "one" and I won't cheat on him.

I knew we were going to be close when we had our first kiss on the first day of meeting. It was like something told us that we were meant for each other.

I went to work one day with a bad feeling. Like something bad was going to happen tonight but I couldn't place what it was.

After Gramps and I got home from work, I finally could place what was wrong: Gramps told me when he got out of the car that it was his time to go. I was losing the last known member of my family. Now I really wish I pressed Gramps to give me contact info for my father. He might have agreed to come stay with me.

I lost it at that point. I just realized that I was living on my own as a teenager--with no decent income. The two small incomes made for a semi-decent income, but with just my income it was going to be hard. But, I'll make it--I just have to.

I had gotten into private school earlier that week. Headmaster Williams called me after he heard about my grandfather's passing to make sure I was doing ok and if I needed anything. I thanked him for his concern and told I was fine and that I had what I needed. There were scholarships available for the needy and based on merit.

I called Lucius to talk about it and to socialize as there was no one here to socialize with anymore. I really miss Gramps. I just have to work really hard in school to get the most scholarships possible.

Monday morning came and I really didn't want to go to school, but I had no choice. I would lose the best income I could have if I didn't keep my grades up. Not to mention that I would be less likely to get the best scholarships if I got behind in school.
